Forex News Japan's June CPI report released July 25 should reveal another pickup in nationwide core CPI inflation to 1.8% on-year from 1.5% on-year in May on higher energy and food prices with risk on the upside, but there is still little chance of a near-term rate hike in context of Japan's slowing economy, says Bank of America's Tomoko Fujii. "We expect no change in the BOJ's overnight rate target (0.50% at present) until April 2009, when a 25bp hike is likely."
